Can I Wear a Jumpsuit to a Black Tie Event

My sixth form is hoping to plan a leavers event for my year and the dress code will be 'black tie'. I have no idea what that means...😅
What kind of dresses and accessories do you wear to a black tie event?

This guide should be acceptable for a 6th form event if their men's guide is anything to go by.

Men wear tuxedos or black suit & skinny tie.

Women typically wear ball room style gown or cocktail dress

Someone else was asking about something for a function and posters were suggesting a jumpsuit. I had a look for something I could suggest and saw this - for a 6th former, something like this would be perfect, with nice shoes, a bag and jewellery.

I know that if you look for black tie on the internet you may well see pretty elaborate and expensive long dresses being worn, but I think that they don't suit young women - something like the H and M jumpsuit is much more suitable.

Would something like this be alright? (sorry if the picture is small)Name: Screenshot (3).png Views: 32 Size: 408.1 KB

Jumpsuits are not black tie.

Looks great :yy:
Definitely appropriate.

I go to a lot of black tie events and jumpsuits can be very suitable. It depends on the fabric and fit.

I suppose they could be. I'd probably prefer to play it safe and stick to a dress, but I'm not a woman so maybe I'm wrong.

Something like that would be fine, the only thing I would say is that there are a lot of photos like this on the internet advertising dresses just like this one at really bargain prices. They tend to appeal to young women looking for something for a prom type event. The businesses advertising are in China and they make up something very cheap and ill fitting which looks a bit like the dress and send it out.

Some of the authentic companies which make full priced gowns have had real problems with this because the original dresses are from their collections.

It's something like this which I had in mind when I was mentioning fabric and fit, it's very glamorous and a jumpsuit. The look's very on trend.

The H and M pale coffee jumpsuit is along similar lines but much more appropriate for a 6th form event and much more affordable.

I'd have to see it and touch the fabric though, to see if it had an evening, luxe feel to it.
